No - the influenza of 1918 was a form of Avian flu. The H1N1 influenza virus (current Swine Flu from Mexico) has characteristics of both the Avian flu and Swine flu, as well as human flu. That is why it is troubling.

My understanding is that both the Spanish Flu and swine flu are H1N1 virus strains, but they are not the same strain. The Spanish Flu was not swine related.
